Mr. Scrawny here is moulting and has not got the decency or presence of mind to be as elusive as he is in his full glory, how curious. Cardinals are a permanent fixture of our landscape, and frequently hard to shoot before they fly off. We once found a nest, impossible to photograph as it was so well camouflaged in a tree, that we could barely make out the birds as they flew in and out.
