By far the most compliant insect I have seen. They pose! It takes a bit more movement to frighten them off, and they usually have great eyes. Whenever I find one there are dozens and its great fun for photography.

This photograph was taken mid summer and these butterflies were fairly common (unlike the more colorful and larger ones that were not in abundance this year). As butterflies go they are more tolerant of photographers than most and much more likely to stay put longer even when facing you. The main difficulty is getting a good perspective. In post processing I crop the photograph, sharpen, remove noise and do some detail extraction. I find that these small creatures even when seemingly still, move minutely and that without some careful sharpening and detail extraction they can look a bit fuzzier than when you saw them.
