These photographs show the effects of isolating flowers in a group. In this case I have done one photo in colour and another in black and white to make the point that the technique works in most situations.

Using Skylum’s Luminar my objective was to get the same tonal contrast and detail as I get in Intensity CK Skylum’s discontinued legacy software. The old preset of Even Balance is something I will miss when it no longer works on MacOS. These Lupine flowers were developed with my replacement preset.

Once a year I share my concern about the admonition to never take a photograph of a flower straight down. After many years of my calling this silly, I hope we can agree that there should be no rules. For the record I am personally against any absolute rules on style and approaches to photography.
