If it Quacks… (Three Photographs)

Normally we see herons in trees, standing on rocks or in the water. This black-crowned night heron was swimming like a duck. Something I have never seen before. It had some feathers in its mouth, likely from preening. The long ribbon-like plumage is a sign that it’s mating season. I was very pleased to get the lilies into the shots as well, they spice up the pictures nicely.

  7. These are great Victor! It does look like a cross between a heron, duck and gull. I love the juxtaposition with the delicate waterlily 🙂

  8. Obviously been watching the ducks too much … probably needs a mate to remind itself that herons just don’t do that;)
