Modern (Two Photographs)

On this blog I have said that I am no fan of the modern glass and concrete towers that increasingly dominate the skyline. This is mostly because looked at straight on there is not much to them. It takes reflections, clouds and a view from a certain angle to make them interesting.

  3. Glass and concrete both elements of modernity, steel too…without concrete glass looks unfinished..as if a picture without a frame..although no need for concrete to contain it..yet glass towers have their own aesthetics..reflections that makes the environment mesmerizing , any historical building or detailed work gets reflected and you are looking at a new building with old picture..interesting .

  6. You have really shown them off to their best advantage, with these wonderful reflections of the sky!
As a birder, I’m always concerned about the danger to birds of these beautiful structures… Especially in large cities.

    • I agree. We saw a bird fly into a window of the national natural history museum and suggested they do something about their windows. Last time I visited no decals.

      • My son works in downtown Chicago, and he tried valiantly to assist an injured bird, probably a migrating bird that fell to the sidewalk because it was stunned from impact with the building. I later read that there are great efforts to reduce this problem in Chicago and other places. Hopefully things will improve in the future.

        • There’s group here that goes out mornings to find the birds. It’s a big problem.
